THE LONDON SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS: SUSTAINABILITY RESEARCH AND DATA ON AFRICA

On Wednesday, the 15th of March, we were again exposed at Jula consultancy to the challenges of sustainability education and research on Africa.
In a very extensive session with MSc students in Development Management, International Development, our GRI-Certified Sustainability Advisor rediscovered the following, as she helped the students navigate the murky waters:
1.The importance of data availability in sustainability research on Africa. For researchers, data is like the engine of a car, without it there can be no movement no matter how skillful the driver;
2. Even at top-ranked universities, such as the LSE, Cambridge and Harvard (all 3 of which we have had experience at), professors and students face daunting tasks in identifying and accessing sources of sustainability information on Africa. Jula continues to make its contributions in dealing with these challenges in different part of the world; and
3) Data availability directly affects research interests on Africa
The meeting was requested by the World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA) for their consultancy project at the LSE. The project aims to answer 13 very well thought-out, detailed and somewhat intimidating but relevant questions about corporate governance in Africa. The students clearly demonstrated interest in Africa.
