Palgrave Macmillan (a leading scholarly publisher) has confirmed the payment for 100 copies of our family co-authored book on #ESG by one buyer. The buyer, an African businessman, actually wanted to purchase 1,000 copies at Euros 81,000 (after the discount) for distribution in #Africa. The book, “Demystifying #Environmental, #Social and #Governance (ESG): Charting the ESG Course in Africa” is the first scholarly researched and published book ever on what the authors refer to as “formal comprehensive or holistic ESG”, based on a multidisciplinary approach with #Africa at heart and the world in mind.

On the 3rd of December 2023, the book was launched in Burj Khalifa (the world’s tallest building) during #COP28 in one of #Dubai’s best Indian restaurants. It was only about a month ago when I learnt that all costs were paid by an #Arab prince I do not know. All autographed copies at the book launch were bought. The unexpectedly large turnout included eminent government officials, employees of #international organisations, and a #Nobel Prize economist. The attached video of the book was kindly prepared by Impact #Investment Solutions in Zurich and sent to us, after they have received a copy of the book.

As this modest #family work makes the rounds, entering the libraries of top universities and centres of #research around the world, we are particularly grateful for the unexpected support we are receiving from those we know and those we don’t. They seem to have one thing in common – a realization of the sincerity and goodwill behind this book! This was confirmed in a message I received from one of the two daughters of the African buyer who drew their father’s attention to the book: “Jazzak Allahu Khairan for all the efforts and we really hope this will inspire a lot of people.” This message from a teenaged university student says a LOT MORE than its length; i.e. Muslims, Africans, Arabs and the youth (especially #women) are embracing the book – charity has indeed started from home!
