Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA): Circularity, Resource Transformation & the Energy Transition

On the 20th of July 2025, we ended successful presentations to DEWA, this time on “Circular Economy (CE), Resource Transformation & the Energy Transition”. This complex topic was presented and discussed in great detail, looking at the economic, environmental and technical aspects. On this occasion, we invited another prominent associate of ours, Dr Samsurin Welch, a renowned scholar of CE from Cambridge, who teamed up with our GRI-certified Sustainability Advisor (his former student) to make impressive presentations on the topic again. We did the same on August 20, 2024, for the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) in Riyadh. Dr Welch brings over 20 years of industry and academic experience in sustainability, strategy and technological disruption. He is also an entrepreneur and his current venture HyveGeo develops a unique bioengineering approach to address two grand challenges – boosting food security in arid regions and removing millions of tons of carbon dioxide from the air. He was previously the head of digital strategy and innovation for PETRONAS, Malaysia, and he continues to advise organizations across the public and private sectors on sustainability and circular economy transformation. Dr Welch obtained his PhD and MPhil from the University of Cambridge, MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science and BA from Northwestern University, USA. He teaches regularly on the Executive MBA and Executive Education programs at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge.
On behalf of our team and CEO, we wish to thank DEWA for the third invitation to me in 4 years, their very open, warm and keen attitudes and for their CE initiatives! We are attaching a diagrammatic summary of our presentations for you. In it, we share a discovery in my new healthy nutritional journey. We have discovered a very bitter, ugly and smelly vegetable called bitter gourd (like the energy transition), but which has impressive (even tasty) health benefits (like sustainability) when transformed/cooked. Best wishes!
